Privacy Statement
As part of our vision, LIFE looks forward to a world in which the rights and dignity of each person are afforded the utmost respect, in law and in practice, from fertilisation until natural death. This extends to our staff and supporters as well as the people we support. In line with the Data Protection Act 1998, LIFE is committed to ensuring that it not only meets the legal requirements but also establishes a culture of good practice regarding personal information about its supporters.
These principles apply to all our communications, however this statement focuses on our use of personal information collected electronically through the website or email and SMS-texting. Given the changing nature of electronic communications, LIFE reserves the rights to change the details of this privacy statement by posting changes online.
What personal information does LIFE collect from me?
On this website, LIFE will only collect the personal information that you provide. There are various occasions where you will be asked to give personal information, for example resources and donations forms as well as sign-up lists. You may also provide personal information when you contact LIFE directly via emails and SMS-texting.
On this website, LIFE tracks non-personal statistical information about visits to the site through a tracking programme that shows how many visits each page receives, the route taken through the pages and other general information. LIFE uses this information to help us understand more about how our site is used and work on ways to improve it. This information is not linked to any personal details on the actual visitors.
How does LIFE store the information it collects about me?
When LIFE receives personal information from you via the website or email, we are legally obliged to keep this information up-to-date and secure. Within LIFE, only employees who need the information to perform a specific job are granted access to personal information. When LIFE provides personal data to an external agency for a specific project such as the mailing out of our magazine, this is done under strict agreements regarding the security and confidentiality of all personal data.
LIFE takes particular care over online giving. LIFE uses one of the world’s leading online payment companies, Worldpay, which specialises in the secure capture and processing of online transactions. The credit card form is secure and your information is encrypted and stored on a secure database.
Unfortunately, despite all these measures, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while it strives to protect your personal information, LIFE cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk.
How does LIFE use the information it stores about me?
Your details are stored in order to enable LIFE to respond to your requests. They also help us track responses to various initiatives such as fundraising appeals and campaign actions in order to respond better to your interests. In our electronic communications, LIFE seeks to ensure that it is clear how the information you provide will be used. For example, if we offer you the option of joining an email list, we will explain the type of communications you will receive from us.
If at any point, you do not wish to receive information from LIFE, contact the Data Protection Officer (details below) and ask for your record to be amended accordingly.
Who is my information shared with?
LIFE does not sell or supply data to third parties. Your data is only passed onto specific agencies outside LIFE who are working on LIFE’s behalf, for example mailing out our magazine. This is done under strict agreements regarding the security and confidentiality of all personal data.
How can I change my personal contact details or stop receiving materials from LIFE?
LIFE is working on ways to make it easier for you to review and correct the information it keeps about you. In the meantime, if you inform us of changes to your details, or if you want LIFE to stop sending you certain, or all, communications, we’ll amend your details as necessary. Any supporter can also request to see what personal data is being held about them. For all these requests, please contact the Data Protection Officer (details below).
If I am under 16, can I provide personal information to LIFE?
If you are aged 16 or under, please obtain your parent/guardian's permission beforehand whenever you provide personal information to LIFE.
