The planned celebration of LIFE in Witney - what's the story?
There has been considerable comment over the last few days about the decision by Witney Council to withhold permission from LIFE to hold an anniversary celebration in the town. Not all of this comment has been accurate. The event was never intended to be a “pro-life rally” or any kind of public protest; but rather a non-political family-friendly celebration of LIFE's vital charitable work helping women in crisis pregnancy, children with disabilities, and couples with fertility problems. Nor did LIFE ever expect or suggest that there would be 10,000 visitors to the event. In reality, our preparations were for around 2,000 people.
We would like Witney Council to look again at their decision, making sure that they are in possession of all the necessary facts about what LIFE does and why we do it. If allowed to proceed, we are confident that the planned event will be enjoyable, peaceful and friendly, open to the whole community and showcasing the very best of LIFE's positive alternatives for those who want or need to know about our services.
