The San Jose Articles - resisting the idea that access to abortion is a human right
Last Monday, the Houses of Parliament was the setting for the UK launch of the San Jose articles, attended by well-known pro-lifers such as Lord Alton of Liverpool and Lord Nicholas Windsor, The San Jose Articles are a set of legal, scientific and ethical principles which have been drawn up as a response to increasing international pressure from organisations, such as the UN, to declare that access to abortion is a fundamental human right and to compel countries to change their laws to allow abortion. The purpose of the Articles is to assist countries who wish to maintain their current restrictions on abortion, to reassure them of the ethical, legal and social arguments against legal abortion, and to resist attempts to force their hand.
The articles themselves and some background can be accessed here.
