LIFE will make a submission to the Dept. of Education consultation on PSHE
The Department for Education recently began a public consultation on the future of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) in schools. As Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) comes under PSHE, and LIFE has an interest in good RSE, LIFE has prepared a submission to this consultation concerning the future direction and focus of RSE.
Our submission, which is currently being finalised, focuses on the relationships and sex education (RSE) component of PSHE:
Clarifying the aims and objectives of RSE, i.e. improved health outcomes for students, delayed first sexual activity, awareness of the possibility, importance benefits of confining sex to a committed relationship.
Protecting and promoting parental choice in RSE: the right of parents to withdraw their children from RSE and to have meaningful input into the context and content of delivery of RSE.
Looking critically and honestly at the available evidence to see what kinds of RSE actually work, while remembering that measuring outcomes and defining success is not straightforward - many different approaches may have benefits.
