100 lost lives is unacceptable and there IS an alternative to IVF
Leading UK pro-life charity, LIFE, says that official figures revealing 100 selective abortions last year of IVF twins, triplets and quintuplets is an unacceptable by-product of the IVF industry.
LIFE spokeswoman, Joanne Hill, comments: "We understand completely the heartache of couples experiencing problems having children, but urge them not to go down the IVF route. A couple expecting twins or more will find the decision to terminate the lives of one of their children an agonising one which will stay with them forever, no matter how rational it seems at the time.
"What will they tell their surviving child or children about their former siblings and the decision they took? And won't they always wonder what that child would have been like?
"There are alternatives to the commodification of human life that IVF has come to embody. The LIFE Fertility programme offers the natural, body-friendly, positive alternative and has success rates comparable to IVF. It also places the couple's relationship at the heart of treatment rather than the destructive rollercoaster of emotions which accompany IVF."
