Forrester NHS worker case postponed

The Margaret Forrester v Central & North West London NHS Foundation Trust case has now been postponed until the New Year. Margaret Forrester, a mental health professional, was due to go before an employment tribunal on Tuesday, 15th November, to fight to remove a finding of ‘gross professional misconduct' after raising the contentious issue of post-abortion syndrome with work colleagues.

Margaret, a psychological wellbeing practitioner in a London health centre, was deeply concerned that distressed women were being sent for abortions without knowing the possible psychological risks or the alternatives open to them. She decided to have an informal conversation with the family planning staff, broaching the topic of how some women can suffer after an abortion, and gave them a booklet called ‘Forsaken', which tells the true stories of five women who had abortions and how it affected them.

Following a six-month disciplinary process, Margaret was eventually sacked for gross professional misconduct and for distributing ‘materials which individuals may find offensive'. Her battle against Central & North West London NHS continues tomorrow at the Central London Employment Tribunal.

We will keep you updated on any developments.
