Background and Inspiration

A document published in 1968 by the (Catholic) Church called on scientists and medical professionals to recognise their important role in strengthening the family. It urged them to work together and develop ways that couples could regulate their family size in a reliable way based on proper understanding of the body’s natural rhythms.
As a consequence to this encouragement, gynaecologist Dr Tom Hilgers at the Creighton University, Omaha, USA and his colleagues developed the Creighton Model FertilityCare system (CrMS) over the next 10 years. This method allows couples to know with 99.5% confidence if any given day is fertile or not.
Studying thousands of cycle charts Dr Hilgers became aware that the charts additionally revealed useful information about a woman’s gynaecological health. Combining chart-reading knowledge with medical knowledge led to the development of Natural Procreative Technology (NaProTechnology / NPT) by the early 1990’s.
Although the inspiration for the system is Catholic, its application is comprehensive patient-centred healthcare.
LIFE FertilityCare serves couples of all Faiths or none.
