Foods to Avoid

*Some foods do carry risks in pregnancy, so it makes sense to avoid them if you can. Certain foods may be contaminated with bacteria such as listeria and salmonella.

  • Unpasteurised milks
  • Soft, unpasteurised cheeses (such as brie, camembert and similar blue-veined varieties)
  • Liver and liver products (liver contains folic acid but also has high levels of Vitamin A, which could be harmful to the baby n the early months of pregnancy. Pregnant women, and women planning a pregnancy, are advised not to eat liver, or liver products).
  • P‰tŽs ø all types.
  • Raw and undercooked eggs.
  • Ice-cream from soft whip machines
(Note: wrapped or block ice-cream is safe)
  • Mayonnaise (homemade because of the raw egg content)
